Fewer young Americans receiving their license

A new study shows that the number of young Americans that do not have a driver’s license is increasing more and more throughout the past three decades. The study shows that this is not only true for Americans, but also in other wealthy countries throughout the world.

Researchers who noticed the trend stated that one possibility could be that people need less face-to-face contact because of the amount of electronic and Internet contact that is available. According to the study, researchers at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute in Ann Arbor looked at driver’s license records from 1983 to 2003.

amount of people between the ages of 16 and 39 that have a driver’s license is decreasing drastically. In 1983, nearly 69 percent of 17-year-olds has a license and in 2003 this number had decreased to 50 percent. Americans between 20 and 24 who had a license in 2003 dropped 10 percent from where it was in 1983. Researchers found that the older the age group, the less of a decrease there was.

Other reasons for this may be the cost of buying a car that is preventing people from buying one or even getting a license. Maintaining a vehicle can also be expensive. The Austin carpet cleaners can list a variety of great reasons why it is beneficial to keep the vehicle clean and maintained, but many may not think that it is important enough and opt for public transportation instead.

New data released shows that drivers who get behind the wheel after smoking marijuana are twice as likely to get into an accident.

Results of a new study have been published in the British Medical Journal and state that drivers who smoke pot before driving face double the risk of getting into a car accident than those who are not impaired while driving. Officials state that the real danger comes in when people begin to mix alcohol (or other substances) with marijuana.

“I’ve got news for you, impaired driving is impaired driving and yes, marijuana will cause impairment and any enforcement officer will tell you the same thing,” said Albert Gutier of the Gov. Office of Highway Safety.
